The PiS is betting on global alt-right, ready to swallow a pro-Russian frog

Last week we learned that Dominik Tarczyński replaced Prof. Ryszard Legutka as head of the delegation of Law and Justice in the European Parliament. erstwhile asked at a press conference about this change, Jarosław Kaczyński refused to answer, claiming that these were "internal affairs of the party".

We know well that the President's grace gives and the President's grace receives, Ryszard Legutko was not the first writer's note very brutally "brought to the ground" by the president Kaczyński. However, it is hard to defy reflections on the symbolic dimension of this change: an intellectual policy replaced 1 of the most aggressive political scouts of the Law and Justice Party, known exclusively for its highly polarizing language and many acts of rhetorical aggression, negatively distinguishing even from the Polish policy of the last decade, which was not a land of mildness.

However, as the interview Tarczyński gave to the weekly “Network” shows, the change of the head of the Europarliamentary delegation of the Law and Justice is not only symbolic. Tarczyński's nomination announces a clear turn of the organization towards global altrights. Both on the level of ideas and concrete political alliances. Which, given the fact how fascinated Putin is by most of the alt-right forces, is simply an absurd strategical choice.

Alliance with Le Pen and Trump

As announced by the Tarczyński PiS this year, it is intended to support the global forces of the Alt-Right, both in the European Union and across the ocean. Tarczyński reveals in an interview that the plan of the Law and Justice is to make in the next Euro-Parliament a large faction to the right from the Chadetia, which would bring together parties sitting present with Law and Justice in a group of European Conservatives and Reformers and those presently concentrated in the factions of Identity and Democracy. As Tarczyński ignites, this could make “the largest faction in the European Parliament” without which nothing could happen in it. And who knows, we might even be able to choose Jack Saryusz-Wolski as the fresh head of the European Commission.

The problem, however, is with whom the Law and Justice would gotta ally to accomplish these goals – even assuming that they are realistic, however. The TiD faction focuses openly on anti-EU, most nationalist and mostly more or little pro-Russian forces on the continent. League leader Matteo Salvini paraded across Russia in a T-shirt with Putin. The Marine Le Pen organization was funded from Russian loans. The Austrian Freedom organization spoke against imposing sanctions on Russia in connection with the war in Ukraine, and its MPs left the area erstwhile Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenski spoke in the Austrian parliament – and there are more akin examples in the TiD faction.

Interviewer Michał Karnowski asks Tarczyński about this problem. The MEP acknowledges that the differences between the Law and the European utmost right are, but not greater than between the Greens, the Left and the chadeks, who present dominate together in Europarlamenta. If, as the Euro MP says, "they are getting along someway in the national backyard for the power of Kosiniak-Kamish and Zandberg", then the Law and Justice Office can communicate with various troublesome partners in Europe. However, the limits of the agreement will be "historical truth, border issue, common respect".

The problem is that Kosiniak-Kamysz and Zandberg did not yet agree – together they did not enter the government – and secondly, if a large extremist right faction in the European Parliament were actually created, then the Law and Justice Office with its views on the crucial issues of Ukraine, east politics, Europe's relations with Russia, would be in it in a clear number and would have small chance to influence what positions it would take in these matters.

The effect of the plan presented in the “Networks” by Tarczyński may yet turn out to be that PiS will engage in strengthening in the EP a faction operating in the east section against our most basic interests.

A akin effect can be achieved by the engagement of the Law and Justice in the American Polonia for Trump's victory. And that's what Tarczyński says. The politician says to Michał Karnowski: “We should support Trump in the United States” due to the fact that “it would be unwise not to engage in a case that could bring Poland so much good”.

The question is, can he really? As far as it is understood that the president and another key leaders of the Law and Justice do not want to comment on Trump's harsh words, it would be unwise to alienate individual who might become president – it is simply a political madness to actively bet on him today.

Trump and his camp explicitly announce the cut-off of Ukraine's aid, the retreat of the States from east Europe and the reset of relations with Russia. Even if these plans are only partially implemented, it is hard to imagine a script in which the Trumpian revision of US safety policy makes us safer. Tarczyński praises Trump as the president, who “regards the function of Poland”, sold us modern weapons and “give us a historical speech in Warsaw” – but if Trump starts disassembling the transatlantic safety system, then the best relations of the PiS squad with the American president will not compensate us.

The worms are coming back.

In the name of what is the Law and Justice active in these dubious alliances from the point of view of the Polish state? Tarczyński lists 3 reasons. "The War of Civilization", in which conservative forces must consolidate, "against the centralisation of the European Union" and disagreement with the Green Deal.

The fact that this last thread may dominate the European PiS run besides signaled weekend speech president Kaczyński in Opoczno. The leader of the Law and Justice Society said in the language of pure climate deniism: “I don’t know if it’s actual (but it’s said by a retired scientist, 1 who can no longer be done) that all people do for contamination of the atmosphere is like a large sports hall to light a match.” Unfortunately, he was incapable to callback the name of the author of this peculiar comparison.

The EU's climate policy Kaczyński called it a “green disorder” whose aim is to halt the improvement of countries specified as Poland and even “destroy everything that is our life”. The likewise apocalyptic speech hits Tarczyński. erstwhile asked by Karnowski about fresh emanation simplification plans by 90% by 2030, he says: "New draconian restrictions will lead to the collapse of states, the end of the functioning of societies we know. If we are to reduce emissions in 90% [...], in the same dimension we gotta quit all activity: heating, car use, flying.”

Green governance can, of course, be criticised, even if it calls for it to take more account of the specificities of the little economically developed countries in Europe or the interests of poorer layers of society. However, it is hard to expect, listening to what Kaczyński and Tarczyński say, that the PiS run will be able to engage in any substantive discussion with the plans of EU climate policy.

Tarczyński accuses “eurocrats” that in the name of emanation simplification they want people to eat worm flour, and themselves, erstwhile the European Parliament has a “steak day”, they line up so long that “when a man leaves the register, the steak is cold.”

Protocol 20 percent.

This turn of the Law towards alt-right, towards the pro-Russian, anti-European, negating right-wing climate change, is profoundly detrimental to Poland for 3 reasons. First of all, by focusing on proputin forces and completely ignoring their pro-Russian position in the name of the community in the framework of the contemporary “cultural wars”, the Law and Justice organization launches processes that will reduce the short-term safety of Poland in the key east section.

Secondly, while playing for the construction of the faction in the EP, which will not fight the centralization of the Union so much as to break down the European task from the inside, the Kaczyński organization is acting against the long-term, civilizational interest of Poland, which is to establish our country in the political and economical structures of the West. Finally, taking a denialistic language and playing to sabotage EU climate policy undermines our climate security.

The question is whether the organization would harm its own evidence in this way. The PiS is present a formation in a deep crisis. It is clear that the current expression of opposition imposed by the Kaczyński organization after the losing elections does not work and we request to look for a fresh one. For any activists and organization facilities, the next decision should be even more consistent going in alt-right and putting a policy capable of full embodying specified a direction. 1 of the leading literary intellectuals, historian Prof. Andrzej Nowak, He appealed On Monday, the “Arcans” to president Kaczyński to step down and hand over power to the United Right camp Industry Black Or Patrick Jake. The name Czarnka is increasingly appearing in the context of possible succession after Kaczyński.

A run to the EP based on the scare of “eating worms” and akin anti-EU rhetoric, combined with open support for Trump in the American elections, could be a test of how he would handle specified an alt-right-black PiS. A test that most likely won't end well for the Law and Justice. The PiS on the face of Tarczyński and Czarnek will have nothing to offer to voters, whose acquisition was crucial for the success of the organization during the period 2015-2020 – curious in concrete proposals from the ruling party, not in the "war of civilization" or in the fight against the European Union. Radically anti-EU rhetoric will deter remnants of moderately conservative electorate, which may not want to change Europe into a super state and have many reservations about Green Deal, but will not feel comfortable voting for a organization cooperating with forces playing to break up the European Union. Polish society is inactive pro-EU, that extremist anti-European rhetoric will put the Law and Justice in a minority.

In turn, for a truly anti-European electorate the organization will be simply unbelievable – he remembers Morawiecki besides well agreeing to the reconstruction fund, milestones and conditionality principle. In a word, the plan presented by Dominika Tarczyński may be the launch of the 20% protocol and the way to lose not only the European elections, but besides the presidential elections next year.
