With the introduction of a fresh regulation of the Minister of the Interior and Administration, candidates for service in the Police will gotta meet new, higher requirements for physical fitness. The intent of these changes is to guarantee that future police officers are adequately prepared to execute their duties in dynamic service.
A decline in physical activity among the young generation
The main reason for introducing fresh physical fitness tests is simply a decline in physical activity among the young generation. According to data from the Central Institute for Labour Protection, in Poland all second pupil in the mediate and advanced school does not meet minimum standards of physical activity. This may have negative consequences on the wellness and physical condition of young people.
Higher requirements for candidates for police service
New physical fitness tests consist of respective elements that have been selected to comprehensively measure the candidate's physical capacity. Each responds to different requirements of the police service, specified as:
* Physical strength
* agility
* endurance
* Motion coordination

The criteria for assessing physical fitness in the Police are akin to those utilized in another uniformed services specified as the State Protection Service or the Prison Service. Officers are required to have regular fitness tests, allowing them to monitor their capabilities and keep appropriate physical fitness.

The introduction of fresh physical fitness tests for candidates for the police service is simply a step towards ensuring that future police officers are adequately prepared to execute their duties. At the same time, it is besides a call for a change of approach to wellness and physical condition among young people. In Poland, we request to rise awareness about the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyles in order to be able to guarantee our wellness and physical condition at the highest level.
