Possible power outages and violent storms – Government safety Center warns

The Government safety Centre (RCB) issued urgent alerts on the upcoming violent storms and possible power outages that could affect almost the full country. Projected atmospheric phenomena, combined with intense wind, pose a real threat to the infrastructure and safety of residents.

Hot start of the week and changing weather conditions

At the beginning of the week Poland experiences advanced temperatures. Maximum temperature June 24 scope from 24°C to the northby 28°C to the eastuntil 31°C in most countries and locally 33°C in the southeast. It'll only be cooler along the coast.

This front is moving towards the east and north-eastern countries. Active storm cells are observed, especially in the east of Wielkopolska.

During the storms you can anticipate precipitation up to 10-15 mm and wind gusts reaching 60 km/h. A tiny hail may besides happen in places. IMGW issued first and second degree warnings against heat and storms with strong wind.

The RCB sent SMS alerts to residents informing about dangerous weather events, paying attention to possible power outages caused by harm to power lines by storms and storms.

In particular, the top storm activity is forecast in voivodships: Łódź, Silesian, Lesser Poland, Świętokrzyskie, confederate Mazowieckie and to a lesser degree Lublin and Podkarpackie.

RCB recommendations for residents

The RCB recalls basic safety principles during storms and storms:

  • Remove loose objects from windowsills and courtyards that may be taken by the wind.
  • Move cars, especially if they're parked under trees.
  • Close the windows and doors to prevent harm and drafts.
  • Stay at home, if possible, or rapidly find safe shelter while out.
  • Avoid stopping under trees and dangerous designs.
  • Ensure the safety of animals, especially those outside.
  • Prepare backup light sources, e.g. flashlights with spare batteries.

In addition, in the event of safety situations (e.g. fallen trees, broken power lines), RCB calls for immediate occurrences to be reported to the emergency number 112.

Strong wind – a major threat to infrastructure and safety

The forecasted strong wind can origin harm to power lines and tree branches, which can lead to power outages on a large scale. Drivers are peculiarly exposed as there may be situations where fallen tails or strong wind gusts can pose a danger on the road. RCB besides stresses the hazard of losing control of the vehicle erstwhile entering open spaces during strong blasts.
