Data published by Eurostat show the grim fact – in the last year, the number of foreigners applying for global protection in Poland has increased significantly. Nearly 14.5 1000 fresh asylum applications were registered in 2024. That's almost twice as much as a year ago. Polish-speaking offices do not make major problems to recognise blacks and Arabs travelling halfway around the planet as “war refugees”, or “politically persecuted”. They only request a declaration from the individual concerned.

The unusual thing is that the mass influx of peoples from the "third world" occurs at a time erstwhile the public is increasingly proceeding about "enhancing borders" and "suspending the right to asylum". Data revealed by Eurostat paint a completely different picture: Poland is becoming an increasingly attractive mark for many immigrants, and the asylum strategy is simply a cleverly utilized tool to settle on the Vistula River.
Contrary to appearances, a crucial proportion of migration is not carried out on ft across the green border with Belarus, but by legal road – through airports, under employee, student or household systems. Asylum seekers frequently visit Poland from countries outside the European Union, seeking comparative safety and prospects.
