Krakow March of Silence

Yesterday, a celebration of the 81st anniversary of the Volyn massacre was held throughout the country. On 11 July 1943 Ukrainians started the extermination of the Polish population in the areas of our east Borders.

Once again, and most likely more widely than in earlier years, Poles all over the country said – we remember and will remember the murdered Ukrainians from 1939 to 1947. The celebrations were held in a number of places – Przemyśl, Poznań, Wrocław, Częstochowa, Rzeszów, Tychy, Kalisz, Chełmie, Siemianowice Śląski, Lublin, Gdańsk, Zabrze and another cities. Our readers and listeners took part in the celebrations.

The largest of the memorial marches took place as all year in Warsaw. It is simply a large success of the Foundation “We Remember Volyn” and the Kresowe Generations, but besides individual Katarzyna Sokołowski and Andrzej Łukawski.
The March of Silence in Krakow was organized by the Social Committee of Commemoratives of the 81st anniversary of the Volyn massacre. The honorary patronage of the ceremony was taken by Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski of Kraków, which was accepted with a slight surprise.

After Holy Mass, a march was formed that brought together respective 100 people in this surviving descendant. The march began before the Church of God of the Body on Kraków Kazmierz, went to the Grunwald Memorial, and from there to the Rakowicki Cemetery under the Monument to the Victims of the Volyn massacre. At the Grunwald Memorial, the gathered sang all the phrases “Roty”. The flowers were deposited, among another things, by the Social Committee of Commodities of the 81st Anniversary of the Volynian Reich, the Malopolska Bunt, the United States for Krakow, the Confederation of the Polish Crown and the Krakow Nationals of Kamrats. The president of the City Council of Krakow Iwon Chamielec and Fr Bartłomiej Wajda participated in this more crucial ceremony. There were activists of many opposition political formations of different orientations from the law and left. The representatives of the “Polish Thought” and the Polish thought Clubs from Krakow and Katowice could not miss.

Manifestans carried banners: “Ukrainian genocide in the Polish nation 1939-1945”, “We remember murdered compatriots”, “UN UPA murderer”. People on the tour were friendly and understanding, we heard many warm words. peculiar thanks are due to the organizers of Małgorzata Bednarska, Adam Hareńczyk and Wojciech Siński.
