Michał Zichlarz interviewed Janusz Walus, who described in item his motives and circumstances connected with the assassination of the South African communist terrorist Chris Hani.

– What's it like to kill a man? If individual has no experience, they won't understand. Certain conditions – political and safety – lead to this. This is not a good thing, but there are situations where it is necessary," said Walus in a conversation with Zichlar, the author of the book "Kill Hani. past of Janusz Walus".

Janusz Walus carried out the assassination of Hani on the large Saturday, April 10, 1993. He admitted that the attack was not originally to take place that day, but an chance arose and shot a terrorist. He admitted that if he had to shoot Chris Hani again, he would have done it without hesitation, while the full action would have been better prepared. Walus has no uncertainty that the shooting of the communist extremist saved many lives, which may have been the victim of Hani's terrorist attacks and his subordinates.

“The Last Cursed”, as Walusia is frequently called, besides revealed that he had been in contact with people from South African peculiar Services.
– I kind of worked together. If I knew about any terrorist organizations or actions being prepared, I found out about something, I was just passing on this information. I did not receive my salary, although I had the money offered, but I did not want to be tied up, I only received backing for ammunition, among others – he revealed.

When asked why he became active in politics in South Africa, he confessed: "I simply recognized South Africa – as it turned out later, although it is not yet known what the future will bring – as a country of my permanent residence for the remainder of my life and a country with which I identify. Seeing as early as 1983 as things started to fall in the incorrect direction, I just became active in organizations like the Conservative Party.

In 1993, Janusz Walus was sentenced to death punishment for the liquidation of 1 of the leaders of Communist terrorism Chris Hani. In view of the abolition of this punishment in South Africa, the conviction was replaced with a life sentence.

In March 2020, after nearly 30 years in prison, Walus applied for parole, which was rejected by Justice Minister Ronald Lamola.

21 November 2022. The Constitutional Court of South Africa has decided to release Walus from prison on parole. He was released on December 7, receiving a two-year ban on leaving South Africa.
