Statement by the global Boxing Association on the disqualification of athletes at the planet Boxing Championships 2023

https://www.iba.sport/news/statement-made-by-the-international-boxing-association-regarding-athletes-disqualifications-in-world-boxing-championships-2023/

31 July 2024.

As has already been mentioned, the global Boxing Association (IBA) considers that in this hard time, mention should be made to fresh media statements on Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif athletes, in peculiar in the context of their participation in the Paris Olympics in 2024.

We would so like to address the following issues:

On 24 March 2023, IBA disqualified Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif players from IBA Women's planet Boxing Championships fresh Delhi 2023. This disqualification was the consequence of their failure to meet the eligibility criteria for participation in women's competitions laid down and laid down in the IBA Regulations. This decision, taken after careful analysis, was highly crucial and essential to keep the level of integrity and the highest integrity of the professions.

It should be noted that athletes did not pass the testosterone test, but were subjected to a separate and recognized test whose details stay confidential. This test clearly showed that both athletes did not meet the required qualification criteria and it was concluded that they had a competitive advantage over another players.

The decision taken by the IBA on 24 March 2023 was subsequently ratified by the IBA Board of Directors on 25 March 2023. The authoritative evidence of this decision is available on the IBA website here: Minutes of the IBA Board of Directors .

The disqualification was based on 2 tests carried out on both athletes, as follows:

  • A survey conducted during the Women's planet Championships in IBA Boxing in Istanbul in 2022.

  • Test conducted during the Women's planet Cup in IBA Boxing in fresh Delhi in 2023.

To clarify

  • Lin Yu-ting did not appeal the IBA decision to the Court of Arbitration for athletics (CAS), which made the decision legally binding.

  • Imane Khelif initially appealed that decision to the CAS, but withdrew the appeal during the procedure, which made the IBA decision legally binding.

Our Committees have carefully examined and supported the decision taken at the planet Cup. While IBA is inactive committed to ensuring the integrity of competition in all our events, we are afraid about the inconsistent application of eligibility criteria by another sports organisations, including those overseeing the Olympics. Various IKOl rules on those issues where IBA is not active rise serious questions about both the integrity of competition and the safety of athletes.

In order to get an explanation of why the MKOl allows athletes with a competitive advantage to compete in their competitions, we call on stakeholders to ask for an answer straight to the MKOl.

Sincerely,

International Boxing Association

I hope that this paper shows the irresponsible actions of the ICC and the Olympic organizers in the right light.

There will most likely be voices that due to the fact that the existence of transgenders is simply a fact, they should have the right to participate in sports competitions. However, it is worth noting that the problem appeared comparatively recently, even 10 years ago specified people, and even more so athletes, were not much. For unusual reasons, we don't have women who would become men and want to compete with men in their disciplines. But it seems that, contrary to ideology, biology matters. Of course, men of birth could compete with men, but they won't due to the fact that they think and say they have become women. A completely fresh approach is so needed.

The division in sports into women's and men's disciplines and, for example, in combat sports besides into weight categories, has a deep reason. It is to guarantee equal opportunities. This is clearly stated by the above IBA statement. For example, athletes with various disabilities have their own separate paralympics, where they compete among themselves and we all agree. In my opinion, in the image and likeness of the Paralympics, separate disciplines should be created to let transgender players to compete. In time, further rules will be developed to guarantee equal opportunities within these disciplines.

For transgender athletes, separate sports disciplines should be established in which they can compete among themselves

Then we will most likely hear voices that we are trying to close this group in any ghetto, but this will not be a ghetto more than the current division into disciplines by sex of birth and weight categories. In my opinion, there is no another way to be effective, and the sooner this is noticed and implemented, the better for everyone.
