On 23 October 2024 a peculiar conference entitled “Family origin of peace” was held in the Polish Parliament, which was organised as part of the celebration of household Rights Day. The event was attended by over 120 people, including representatives of the planet of science, clergy, NGOs and social and political leaders. The conference proved not only a turnout success, but besides a platform for reflection on the function of the household as the foundation of social peace.
The event organised by the Parliamentary Group for Catholic Social discipline led by Tadeusz Wozniak and the Parliamentary Group for the Heritage of Saint John Paul II led by Andrzej Gawron in cooperation with the Culturae Ecclesiae survey Foundation and the Community Association without Borders aimed to draw attention to the importance of the household in building sustainable social governance and protecting its rights, in accordance with the ideas set out in the Charter of household Rights, announced by the Holy See.
The conference began at 11:00 p.m. with Holy Mass in the intention of Homeland and Families in the Sejm Chapel, after which at 12:00 the participants were officially welcomed by the organizers – Members Tadeusz Wozniak and Andrzej Gawron. Fr Paweł Stypa, Vice president of the Culturae Ecclesiae survey Foundation, stressed in the introductory words the importance of the household in maintaining peace, and Janusz Kołodziejski, president of the Community Association without Borders, pointed out the request for cooperation of all communities to defend household values.
As part of the lecture, the invited experts raised a number of crucial issues. The lectures by leading experts included many valuable insights and deep reflections on the contemporary challenges facing the household and peace.
Dr. Mieczysław Guzewicz, erstwhile consultant of the Council for the household of the Polish Episcopal Conference, spoke about dialog as a permanent component in family, social and organization life, which can build good and lasting ties.
Dr hab. Teresa Grabińska of the Academy of Land Forces in Wrocław focused on the relation between peace and solidarity in many dimensions, including people, and Fr Krzysztof Bielawny introduced the problems of demography of Poland. There was besides a reflection on contemporary threats to the household – Fr Kazimierz Kurek SDB discussed the universal values contained in the Charter of household Rights, announced by the Holy See in 1983, whose principles stay valid in the context of household protection.
As the last Dr. Artur Dąbrowski presented the influence of neo-marksist ideologies on household dismantling, informing against destructive actions that could weaken the conventional model of marriage. The speakers attended the debate asking interesting questions.
The key minute of the conference was the adoption of a common position of participants, which highlighted that the household is simply a basic social cell and that its protection should be a precedence for the authorities at both national and global level. Conference participants besides called for concern about household subjectivity and to step up efforts to defend it, stressing the peculiar function of the household in ensuring peace on different levels – from social to international.

The Conference shall take the view that:
- the household is simply a natural, primal comparative to others and the basic social cell,
- the household is simply a priceless value which must be decently protected both nationally and internationally,
- marriage, treated as a voluntary relation between a female and a man, concluded in accordance with formal rules is the foundation of the household and its durability should be protected as much as possible,
- the natural and irreplaceable environment for the appropriate improvement of the child,
from conception to adulthood is simply a family, and any another solution in this respect poses a threat to its appropriate development, - the rights of the household are natural and their designation by all authorities, communities and public opinion is simply a primary and inalienable duty,
- The Charter of household Rights announced by the Holy See on 22 October 1983 should supply a regular inspiration for all authorities liable for establishing and respecting the laws of general and local application, regardless of the belief of politicians,
- Family Rights Day celebrated in Poland on 22 October should become an yearly impulse for all people of good will to step up their efforts to benefit the household and its rights in all area.
Conference participants appeal to state authorities
local government, global and ecclesiastical institutions and social activists and all people of good will to increase care for household subjectivity by:
- creating the conditions for appropriate functioning and comprehensive improvement of each household and all human being,
- branding activities that are peculiarly dangerous to families
in the legal, economic, social and moral spheres.
The participants of the Conference, afraid about the future of the household and about the creation and respect of its rights, appeal to all the competent authorities in Poland, Europe and the planet for peculiar protection of marriage, household and parenthood against decay, pathology and degeneration.
The participants of the Conference address the Sejm, the legislature and the president of the Republic of Poland with a categorical appeal not to bring legal solutions to the matrimony of a female and a man into the household and the safety of each of its members, including unborn children and the aged or those in request of peculiar care, even if for any reason they were deprived of household in the conventional sense.
The participants of the Conference turn to all families, so that in a spirit of gratitude to St John Paul II – the Pope of the household – the provisions of the Charter of household Rights make regular inspiration in building a civilization of life and love, thus making a valuable contribution to shaping democracy based on the full fact of man and his dignity.
The participants of the Conference express their gratitude to all institutions and authorities and to all people of good will for the actions so far taken in the interests of marriage, household and all man from conception to natural death and call for increased efforts to advance the well-being of the family, which is simply a origin of peace in a unitary, social and global dimension.
