Grzegorz Braun published a recording on which he and Marcin “Borys” Miksza strikes a metallic tool into a monument of UPA members in the municipality of Dołhobycz. The movie appeared after harm to the obelisk on September 6, 2026. The police are investigating under the supervision of the D.A., and the recording does not yet find the criminal liability of both men.
Recording from the solemn Białystok
Grzegorz Braun posted a movie with a solemn Białystok in the territory of Hrubieszowski on social media. At the recording of the politician and Marcin “Borys” Miksza hit the stone obelisk with a metallic tool. The leader of the Confederation of the Polish Crown besides wrote that the monument is “for liquidation”.
The material appeared after another harm to the object. According to Lublin112, police are investigating the case in the direction of insulting the monument and the resting place, harm to property and acts related to hatred against national background. Officers safe evidence and interview witnesses, and the proceedings are supervised by the territory Attorney's Office in Hrubieszów. At this stage, there are no valid decisions or grounds for attributing both men to criminal responsibility.
Obelisk devoted to UPA members
The monument stands on the grounds of the erstwhile PGR in Białystok, close Lisek. It commemorates 41 members of the Ukrainian Insurgency Army who died in a clash with the NKWD in February 1946. It displays an inscription in honor of the “UPA soldiers” fighting for the freedom of Ukraine and a list of names. For Poles, this message has a peculiar burden due to the fact that UPA is liable for the genocide of the Polish civilian population in Volyn and east Małopolska. Bloody Sunday, July 11, 1943 remains 1 of the most painful symbols of this crime.
The position of the object has long sparked a dispute. The Lublin Provincial Office had previously reported that the grave is not in the provincial registry of graves and war cemeteries. The case besides went to the Sejm. Mr Zapalowski directed in November 2025 an interpelation on a memorial to members of the UPA to the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. However, the deficiency of registration alone does not automatically resolve all property, administrative and criminal issues.
The State cannot escape responsibility
The point is wider than a fewer hits registered with a camera. The Polish citizen has the right to request that no formation charged with the genocide of Poles be glorified in the territory of the Republic. The State should clearly establish the position of the monument, examine the legality of its settings and decide on the further destiny of the inscription. The long-term inaction of the offices creates a space for action on its own.
This does not mean that a politician can replace the office, the conservator, the prosecutor and the court. Even fair opposition to the worship of UPA must be implemented in accordance with Polish law. Self-destruction of the object may weaken the substance of the memory of Polish victims, as it shifts attention from the contents of the monument to the work of participants of the event. Previous harm to the same monument has already led to a police investigation, but has not solved the problem at source.
Memory requires law and action
Poland's right state requires a tough historical policy. It is about the fact about the victims of the CNS and UPA, the dignity of their families and the right of Poles to honestly describe their own history. This work must not be confused with hostility towards the Ukrainians as a nation. work for crimes and concrete actions is always individual.
Now the police and the D.A. gotta measure the footage and another evidence. At the same time, the state administration should yet issue a clear settlement on the obelisk. If the institutions proceed to evade the decision, the dispute will return. The price of this inaction is legal chaos and further humiliation of the memory of Polish victims.
