11 June in Finland New law came into forcewhich obliges foreigners with a temporary stay to find work within 3 months under the threat of deportation. Immigrants with specialist education have 6 months to do so. Illegal immigrants are deported without any limit, and the specified admission of legal immigrants has been limited. It's expected to scare the hell out of trying to get into the country.
Finland has found a way for the invaders. The Ministry of economical Affairs and employment there does not deal with immigrants who work in black or loitering and harassing people on the streets. On 11 June, regulations on foreigners residing in Finland came into force on the basis of temporary residence. Since then, specified people will have 3 months to find fresh employment. If they neglect to find any position at the time and have no another valid reasons to stay in Finland, their residence licence will be cancelled and will be forcibly deported.
The same law introduced an exception for alleged specialists who will have twice as much time as six months to find a fresh job. ‘Specialists’ is defined as experts performing highly qualified professions requiring expertise and with a monthly wage of at least EUR 3827. The Ministry indicated that the six-month occupation search period includes not only specialists but besides EU Blue Card holders.
Under the rules introduced, an employer who ends employment of a temporary residence licence (employee visa) is obliged to notify the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) within 14 days. This work does not apply to the termination of temporary or temporary work performed in parallel with the main employment related to the stay.
The Ministry besides announced a decree on national labour shortage sectors in June 2025. The holder of an worker visa will be able, on the basis of the same permit, to decision to another sector considered to be deficit. To date, a change in the sector required a fresh permit, while only a change of employer within the same sector was possible.
