The following text by Stanisław Wodowski, published in ]]>time]]> You'll find out how terrible one-eyed Braun is.

In the Polish public debate, for months there has been a phenomenon which no 1 in the mainstream could foretell and even more control. Grzegorz Braun, a Euro MP, leader of the Confederation of the Polish Crown, a man who was inactive late treated as an eccentric curiosity of seym galleries, became 1 of the most serious players on the political stage. The polls systematically show two-digit support for his formation, and the electorate, who erstwhile unreflexively voted for PiS or KO, is increasingly turning towards Braun. And it is this fact that creates a real panic among the elites – both the PiS and those around Donald Tusk and the presidential environment.
The elites do not criticize Braun in an intellectual or political debate. They're afraid of him. They are afraid of losing their monopoly on narrative, fearing the failure of voters, fearing a real change of power. So they usage fear alternatively of arguments. They scare Braun, they scare “Braunization”, they scare global disaster, they scare Putin, they scare Polish isolation. And at the centre of this intimidation operation are the statements of 3 key figures of Polish politics: Jarosław Kaczyński, Zbigniew Bogucki representing president Karol Nawrocki and Donald Tusk.
‘Chief’ in Panic
Jarosław Kaczyński, president of Law and Justice, the man who built for years the image of the undisputed leader of the Polish right, reacted to Braun's increasing popularity in a way that betrays panic. In subsequent speeches, the MEPs are publically cut off in an ostentatious, even demonstrative way. "Braun is beyond the borders of civilization," Kaczyński said, referring to statements about gas chambers in Auschwitz. "Since the minute he challenged these gas chambers," he explained, trying to represent Braun as a completely excluded form of serious policy. At another point, PiS president stated: “No alliances with Braun are possible. Anyone who wants to include or vote for Braun actually votes for Tusk. It votes Putin. That is the truth.” And then, “This is the way to nowhere, the way to misery for Poland, utmost misfortune.” Kaczyński stressed that the alliance with Braun would be "like an alliance with Putin", and the Euro MP himself "far exceeded those limits that are impossible for politicians in our sphere of civilization." In an interview with Virtual Poland, he went further: he called Braun "very dangerous" and declared that even at the cost of losing his power he would not enter a coalition with him. "What Braun does is not a average part of public life and there is nothing to talk about," he said. He resembled the coalition with the self-defense of Andrzej Lepper, stating ironically that "in comparison with today's Braun it was a civilized party, the full representatives of salons". Finally, in 1 of the tv interviews Kaczyński stated that “there is most likely only hell from Braun.”
These words are not just criticism. It's strategical scare. Kaczyński knows that part of his conventional electorate – especially in the south of Poland, in conservative and Catholic environments – is increasingly listening to Braun. The president of the PiS is afraid that losing these voters will prevent him from returning to power. That is why he builds a communicative in which voting for Braun is in fact voting against Poland, behind Tuski and behind Putin. This is simply a classical maneuver: alternatively of competing programically, it scares itself with disaster. The PiS elites, who have utilized sovereignty rhetoric themselves over the years and at the same time have given up Polish independency of the EU, abruptly discover that individual else is talking about independency truly and without compromises. And that is why Kaczyński must publically show the distance – due to the fact that he is afraid that in the eyes of any voters he looks soft, on a "junior partner", as he erstwhile called others.
Bogacki attacks
No little aggressive towards Braun is the attitude of Zbigniew Bogucki, head of the Chancellery of president Karol Nawrocki. Bogucki as a typical of the presidential centre of power moves in a delicate space between criticism and pragmatism. On the 1 hand, commenting on Braun’s controversial statements regarding the Holocaust, he firmly stated: “These are unacceptable, scandalous statements. These are de facto statements – I will say it very powerfully – anti-Polish. These are anti-Polish statements, due to the fact that if German crimes committed on Jews are reduced, German crimes committed on Poles and all another nationalities can besides be reduced. There is neither the consent of president Nawrocki nor any of the president's surroundings." [1]
These words form part of a broader elite narrative: Braun harms Poland, due to the fact that it undermines the historical fact and thus weakens the country's position on the global stage. Bogacki, like Kaczyński, uses the argument of “anti-poloscity” – a classical fear tool that is designed to mobilise public opinion against “dangerous” politician.
On the another hand, Bogacki shows any caution, which besides reveals the anxiety of the elite. In the program “Tlit” of Virtual Poland, he said: “Grzegorz Braun is 1 of the leaders of the political force, which – at least according to the polls – is of any importance today.” He stressed that "the president is not in favour of excluding individual simply due to the fact that he does not like mainstream". He added: "There are people among the voters of Grzegorz Braun who profoundly carry Poland and do not share all its views." The question he posed was significant: “Should we categorically, in advance, regulation out any conversation at all, or any effort to hear any reason? What kind of democracy in which individual is completely excluded?"
This ambiguity is characteristic of elites who fear Braun, but at the same time fear that complete exclusion can further strengthen his position among disappointed voters. Bogucki, representing the presidential center, balances between condemnation and openness – due to the fact that he knows that in democracy it is impossible to simply close the door to the increasing political force. And the fear of this force is real: elites fear that Braun can become a tongue in the weight of the future parliamentary arrangement.
Tusk plays a fake card
Donald Tusk, Prime Minister and Leader of the civilian Coalition, responds to Braun's phenomenon in a way that combines moral outrage with cold political calculation. After loud statements by the Euro MP on Auschwitz, Tusk stated: “This is simply a disgrace. We request to do everything we can to guarantee that no 1 in the planet is associated with Poland with specified people, with specified faces and specified activities.” He called on the services to act "hard and decisively", regardless of the position of those breaking the law. He besides asked then resident Andrzej Duda and Jarosław Kaczyński to "do not coquet, do not co-play with this nasty atmosphere which is produced by people like Braun or Bąkiewicz".
Tusk so scares not only with “honor”, but besides with the global isolation of Poland. In his narrative, Braun is simply a threat to the image of the country, to the relation with the West, to security. At the same time, Tusk skillfully uses the fear of Braun against Kaczyński. erstwhile the PiS president publically declared that “never with Braun”, Tusk commented on platform X with the words “Kaczyński’s Declaration that “never with Braun” sounds promising and rational. I want it had anything to do with reality. Without Braun Kaczyński there is no chance of gaining power, and for power, he is known to be willing to sacrifice everything."
It's a typical political maneuver. Tusk not only condemns Braun, but besides scares voters with a imagination in which Kaczyński will gotta deal with him anyway. Thus the leftist elites usage Braun as a bogeyman in both directions: against the right and against the Law. Fear of Braun’s “coming to power” becomes a tool for mobilising his own electorate. Tusk knows that the more he scares “braunisation”, the easier it is for him to keep the coherence of the ruling coalition and divert attention from his own scandals.
They're scaring you.
The mechanics of the elite is classical in this case. alternatively of facing the causes of Braun's popularity – the disappointment of mainstream politics, the sense of losing sovereignty, opposition to EU dictatorships, the defence of conventional values – elites choose fear. Kaczyński scares Putin and the misfortune of Poland. Bogacki scares “anti-Polish” with statements that supposedly undermine the right state. Tusk threatens with shame and global isolation. In the context of mainstream media, there are also texts on the “PiS basket”, “Tusk’s suit”, “a threat to democracy”. The elites make an atmosphere where the very existence of Braun is to be adequate reason to vote for "safe" options.
It's evidently a fear of losing control. due to the fact that Braun is not a product of the surviving room. He is not a man who can be invited to dinner in Brussels or Washington and silenced by compromise. He says things that the elite have found indecent, and which the increasing part of society considers obvious. It is worth noting that this fear is supraparty. Both the PiS and the left-liberal elites agree that Braun is simply a threat. It's a uncommon agreement that only confirms how frightened they are of losing their monopoly.
At the same time, with the aid of this aggressive demonization of the elite, they do Braun a large service: making him the main opponent, they hit him with points due to the fact that they change the main axis of political division. It begins to run not between the weakening PiS and the weakening KO, but between the PiS and the KO in the common front and Braun as a common enemy.
If Braun were just a marginal character, no 1 would take care of him. If his ratings were falling, the elite would be silent with a grievance. Meanwhile, the higher his support, the louder his warnings are. Kaczyński excludes the alliance even at the price of power – due to the fact that he knows that Braun will not be an appetizer he can swallow. Tusk points out that without Braun Kaczyński he will not win – due to the fact that he is afraid of an alternate in which the right side consolidates beyond his control. Bogucki condemns statements as anti-Polish, but at the same time does not exclude talks – due to the fact that he is afraid that a complete cut-off can strengthen Braun's legitimacy among voters and harm the re-election of his boss.
This panic of the elite is deeper. Grzegorz Braun symbolizes something that salons cannot accept: the return of a policy based on strong values, without looking at correctness and global opinions. The elites have become accustomed to the fact that the debate takes place in a narrow framework – between utmost leftist “Europeanity” and pro-EU, or, in fact, leftist “moderate conservatism”. Braun's frame is blowing. That's why scaring him into power became the main political activity of the season. It's not about real software analysis. It's about mobilising fear. Fear of losing influence, of changing the language of the debate, before voters can choose individual who does not play by the rules of the surviving room.
Fear of the elite
In this game, elites uncover their weakness. The more they talk about the alleged danger caused by Braun, the more they confirm that they take him seriously. The more they repeat that an alliance with him is simply a disaster, the more clearly they are afraid of the script in which he can become the decisive player. Kaczyński, Bogucki and Tusk – everyone in their own way – together participate in this intimidation operation. Their statements are not simply a political assessment. They are an expression of fear of losing control of Polish politics. And the louder they scare, the more they uncover that Grzegorz Braun stopped being a marginal figure and became a real challenge for the full arrangement.
The elite fear him not due to the fact that he is dangerous to Poland. They fear him due to the fact that he's dangerous to them.

Why are you lying, Mr. Bogacki? Braun did not reduce the number of victims but demanded technological discussion on methods of killing people in Auschwitz-Birkenau.
