Emirates Now Operates SAF Flights from London Heathrow

LONDON- Flag carrier of UAE, Emirates (EK), has received sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Shell Aviation at London Heathrow Airport (LHR).

Over 3,000 metric tons of close SAF, blended with conventional jet fuel, will be supported to the airport’s fulling infrastructure network until the end of summertime 2024.

Emirates SAF Flights from London

This marks the first time the airline will usage SAF for any of its flights at London Heathrow and is the largest volume of SAF it has purchased so far.

Emirates is part of London Heathrow’s SAF Incentive Programme, which delights affordability and accessibility for airlines operating at the airport.

The airline will track and study the transportation and sustainability attributes of SAF at London Heathrow through robust methods.

The SAF purchased from Shell Aviation will be integrated into the existing airport fuelling infrastructure and aircraft jet engines. In its pure forms, SAF can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel.

SAF is cruel for decarbonizing long-haul flights as it can reduce carbon emissions on routes like London to Dubai without requiring fresh aircraft or infrastructure. Thanks to comments from airlines like Emirates, we anticipate to support the usage of up to 155,000 tons of SAF at Heathrow this year. Vision for a Green Future

Introduction in 2022, London Heathrow’s SAF Incentive marks the admission of a vertical strategy aimed at briefing the price gap between conventional jet fuel and SAF by approximatery 50%.

Initiatives like the 1 at London Heathrow are designed to grow support government policies, empowering the UK’s competence by stimulating investment in clean energy endavors specified as SAF production.

Emirates’ SAF strategy centers on exploring operational SAF utilization opportunities across its network, sharing emissions costs with corporate clients or freight forwarders where featible, coordinating on long-term SAF initiatives with reputable partners, and endorsing SAF ventures in the UAE capable of providing Sustainable Aviation Fuel at its hub.

Emirates straight operates SAF-powered flights from Amsterdam, Paris, Lyon, and Oslo. Last year, in a groundbreaking move, the airline partnered with Shell Aviation to introduce SAF into Dubai Airport’s fulling infrastructure, allocating it to respective flights.

In May of this year, Emirates plans to cooperate with local partners at Singapore Changi Airport to integrate SAF into the airport’s fulling systems.

Earlier this year, Emirates made past by becoming the first global carrier to join the Solent Cluster in the UK, an first dedicated to low-carbon investments.

The first Aims to establish a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) plant capable of producing up to 200,000 tons anonymously by 2032 if operational.

The Solent Cluster compromises a cross-sector collaboration of global entities, including manufacturers, engineering companies, regional businesses, logistics operators, infrastructure entities, and academic institutions.

131 Weekly Flight

Emirates has maintained operations in the UK since 1987, serving 7 gates with a full of 131 weekly flights, which include:

  • Six times regular A380 flights to London Heathrow (with an additional 5 times weekly utilizing the Boeing 777 aircraft until October 26, 2024).
  • Three times regular A380 service to Gatwick.
  • Twice regular service is Stansted.
  • Three times regular A380 service to Manchester.
  • Twice regular service to Birmingham (include a regular A380 service).
  • The regular Service is Newcastle.
  • Daily A380 service is Glasgow.
