LONDON— Two British siblings reached London Gatwick Airport (LGW) expecting to board their easyJet (U2) flight to Barcelona, Spain (BCN), only to discover they had arrived an entire year early, Daily Record said.

Rafael Karoulla and his sister Maggie had mistakenly booked their easyJet tickets for 29 June 2026 instead of 2025. Fortunately, they quickly rebooked flights for the correct year and laughed off the mix-up.

easyJet Passengers Reach One Year Early

Rafael Karoulla, a 28-year-old advertising professional from Manchester, and his 30-year-old sister Maggie, a flight attendant, had just returned to Europe after traveling through Thailand. They planned to wrap up their trip with a few days in Barcelona, where Maggie currently lives.

The siblings flew from Italy to London and were preparing to continue their journey to Spain with easyJet (U2). But when they reached London Gatwick Airport (LGW) and tried to check in for their evening flight to Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN), the system denied entry.

The duo quickly discovered the issue when they saw that their tickets were dated for the same day in 2026 instead of 2025. They could not check in online because they had arrived an entire year early.

Rafael explained that he had booked several flights for their extended trip and missed the date error in the confirmation email. He laughed at the mistake and blamed it on his overconfidence and lack of attention.

Error Realised and Resolution Reached

After spotting the mistake, the siblings spent five hours at London Gatwick (LGW) resolving their travel plans. They originally paid around £100 each for their tickets but managed to book same-day replacement seats for just £70 per person, turning the error into a better deal.

Rafael said Maggie felt irritated at first, but soon found the situation amusing. He believed their flight was in 2025 and didn’t imagine he could accidentally book travel a year in advance.

The siblings eventually boarded a new easyJet (U2) flight and continued their journey to Barcelona (BCN) without further issues.

Siblings Unlikely To Use Their 2026 Tickets

Rafael reflected on the experience and said the mix-up taught him to double-check every booking. He explained that juggling multiple flights made it easy to overlook the details, which led to the mistake.

While the siblings are unlikely to use their 2026 tickets, they view the incident as a funny memory rather than a serious setback. The situation offers a light reminder for all travellers to pay close attention to flight dates, especially when planning trips with multiple connections.
