At first reading on Friday, the Sejm rejected a civic task that provided for a punishment of up to 2 years in prison for public ridicule, humiliation or ridicule towards the Church, its dogmas or rites. The authors of change comment on this as a contempt for Christians.

The ruling coalition demanded the rejection of these changes, called the task “in the defence of Christians”, which was reported at first reading on Thursday. In the end, 230 Members voted against, 188 opposed and 7 abstained.

This is another effort failed to pass severe sanctions for mocking the Church. Last summertime this item was removed from the session of the Sejm just before the vote.

Due to the civic nature of the project, the talker of the Sejm decided that it would be conducted in the fresh term. Although the task is civic, due to the fact that it was supported by almost 400 1000 Poles and Poles, its content was developed by politicians 2 years ago, then from Solidarne Poland, who besides collected signatures under it.

He comments: It is contempt for Christians

– The rejection of this task is anti-citizenship and anti-freedom. The coalition on December 13 showed its actual face. It is simply a contempt for Christians, encouraging the further abuse of Catholics and providing impunity to aggressors who devastate churches, destruct crosses and interrupt Holy Masses – says Marcin Warchoł of Sovereign Poland.

He excluded further attempts to pass these changes. - We're realists. With this majority in the Sejm it is impossible to push through a task that will warrant respect and the right to undisturbed prayer," he said.

The main intent of this task was to amend Article 195 of the Criminal Code, which presently provides for a word of imprisonment of up to 2 years for interfering with the spiritual act of the church or another spiritual union. The authors of the changes wanted to remove the word "malignant". The task besides included the same punishment for those who interfered in funerals, celebrations or mourning rites.

The proposal was besides intended to affect Article 196 of the Criminal Code, which presently punishes another people's spiritual feelings by publically insulting the object of spiritual worship or the place for the public performance of spiritual rites.

According to the rejected project, for publically demeaning the Church or any another spiritual union of a regulated legal situation and for mocking its teachings or rites would be punishable by 2 years imprisonment. The same punishment could be imposed for publically insulting a spiritual object or a place where spiritual rites are held.

The project's authors besides sought to introduce a fresh article, 27a, to the Criminal Code, which would defend the expression of beliefs, judgments or opinions consistent with the church's teaching or another spiritual association from punishment. However, this proposal would not release work for insulting or disrupting public policy by expressing beliefs, opinions or opinions.
