The Desert Fathers have escaped from the strife and mediocrity of everyday life into the desert and the loneliness of prayer and repentance. Saint Benedict escaped to sanctify himself. Saint Bernard joined the monastery of the tiny and raw, seeking the perfect way of sanctification. Saint Francis abandoned the planet and wealth to search God's service in humility, mortification and obedience. Examples could be multiplied. They all point to the same method: to escape unnecessary things and search your own improvement to service God and men.
These 2 texts, which the Noble Reader has before him, dating from the early Christians, show us that the way to build the Church from the beginning was to change itself, to service God and men in a constant fight against our top enemy – our weakness. Didache and Shepherd Hermas are not simply “books to be read; they are a evidence of the religion of the Church of direct successors to the Apostles. The way of praxis (practices) of faith, not theories or disputes.
This publication, which contains the above - mentioned works, is published for constant reading, for we can constantly take advice and caution on our way of life. These counsels of our Fathers can aid us heal ourselves and lead the people entrusted to us. By an example of the complete penetration of religion in our regular life, by indicating the necessity of repentance, tears and mortification. Without them, we will not be able to see ourselves in the light of grace, which is essential for us to fight to sanctify ourselves. And through this only – indirectly – about the sanctification of neighbors and the Church.
