In the first days of April at a press conference Rafał Trzaskowski announced that if he had been president now, then, as Andrzej Duda would have signed an unconstitutional law suspending asylum. For many years now, first the PiS, and now the KOs present migration as the main origin of danger. We hear that more frequently than we hear about the danger coming from Russia. This is accompanied by a message about Ukrainian “ingratitude”, “affiliity” and attempts to cheat Poles on 800 plus – and already openly racist fear that more people will appear on Polish streets, and it will be as bad as in France or Germany.
Polish sensitivity (does Minister Duszczyk want to teach this?) can be seen in the streets. On Thursday, 5 migrants went from a facility in Red Bora to a store a fewer kilometres away. A car with masks of men with baseball bats and a metallic rod stopped close them. They did not respond to the good morning – they hit. Migrants started running.
On Sunday, 150 people came to the centre for foreigners in Red Bora in a "citizen walk", which we saw many in the autumn of 2024. Will politicians take work for the effect of their words? In the next tragedy, will we hear contemptible words about the fact that “a foolish people bought it” or lofty and meaningless “people...”? Will politicians and commentators be amazed again that in Poland so much racism and xenophobia?
It is hard not to combine this force and contempt for human rights with another achievements of Donald Tusk's government: lowering the wellness rate, giving up protecting women's and tenants' rights or inactive mediocre education. For respective years, specifically: since the beginning of the war, from the beginning of a hybrid, now not only, life in Poland is cheaper.
Politicians decided to take any money from the wellness department, although common sense says that in the face of pandemic experience and the threat of war, you gotta pay much more for wellness than before. Women are inactive suffering and risking their lives erstwhile they are pregnant, and doctors cheat them and force them to breed improperly. The state cannot cope with systemic challenges, so it prefers to stubbornly play populism, and to show strength it hits the weakest.
What will these actions bring? It's easy to guess: an uneducated society that treats with garlic and vodka, and hates strangers.
