Attorney General Adam Bodnar reported on another indictment of flat extortion in Tricity. It's part of a wide-ranging prosecution effort that revealed the scale of criminal activity. So far, 52 people have been charged, including 8 notaries.
How did the flat extortion group work?
Justice Minister Adam Bodnar described the fraud mechanics in detail. The defendants, Gracian Sz. and Grzegorz B., offered the victims cash in exchange for the transfer of rights to municipal housing. They offered only amounts 15-20% of the real property marketplace value, promising additional aid in uncovering cheaper locations.
The key component of their actions was fraud of power of attorneythat allowed them to take control of the apartments. Then they rapidly resold the property to people who acted in good faith, leaving the victims with debts and without shelter.
Victims – people in hard circumstances
The investigation showed that the defendants They took advantage of the weakness of the victims – their financial problems, age, mediocre health, addiction or difficulties within the meaning of legal documents. Many of the victims were either in remanding proceedings or had rent arrears.
In 1 case, Gracian Sz. bought an flat from the city of Gdynia for PLN 36 thousandto then sale them at a marketplace price. The victim was burdened with a return discount of PLN 145 thousandbecause the transaction occurred before the expiry of the required five-year period.
Investigation continues – fresh allegations
Regional Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk leads main investigationwhere charges have already been filed 33 peopleof which 5 notaries. For their engagement in fraud, they are facing prison sentences. from 1 year to 10 years, fines and the work to make good damage.
Adam Bodnar stressed that the prosecution's actions are aimed at Ensuring justice and the protection of the most vulnerable.
