Seventeen years ago, on 17 and 18 March the Albanians struck a Serb pogrom in many of Kosovo and Methochija. 19 people died then, 954 were injured. More than 4,000 people were driven out of the state and at least 900 buildings were demolished, including 35 Serbian churches and monastics. Even 72 UN peacekeeping vehicles were destroyed.
The direct origin of the March Pogrom was the drowning of 3 Albanian children in the Ibar River in the village of Cabra k. Kosowska Mitrovica on 16 March 2004. The Albanian people blamed the Serbian community. So he turned into a riot. The slogans of cultural cleansing were lost, and the following day about 60,000 Albanians appeared in Kosovo and Methohia against Serbia. The riots continued continuously from 19 to 25 March.
As a consequence of the alleged March pogrom in 2004, the Cathedral church of St. George of 1856 was destroyed in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, among others, and in the presence of German soldiers from KFOR was burned and the monastery of the Archangels was robbed. akin events occurred in Urosevac, where Greek soldiers defended the local church. The female monastery Dević was destroyed in Srbrnica. On the grounds of the monastery, the relics of St. Joanicius were profaned by beginning the grave, dragging the relics of the saint and dumping garbage into the grave. The Monastic advanced Dechan and the historical office of the Serbian patriarchs protected Italian soldiers from destruction. In June 2004, the Italian Patriarch unit Serbian Paul awarded the Order of St. Sawa. The remains of the Serbs were dug up in Mitrovica and scattered throughout the city, while the soldiers left St. Andrew's church, which the Albanians blew up.
The riots besides included Vitina, Kosowe Pole, Istok, Obilić, Vucitrn, Kosowska Kamenica, Stimle, Djakovica, Podujevo. Most of the exiled Serbs have not yet returned to their homes in Kosovo.
