An crucial gesture. Six German bishops were on their way to the March for Life

Marches for Life and household are becoming increasingly popular in Germany. This year, major demonstrations took place in Berlin and Cologne. Interestingly, unlike in Poland, bishops are eager to participate in the marches.

In Cologne, the auxiliary bishop of Dominikus Schwaderlapp attended the march. In Berlin, they walked in the manifestation: Bishop of Ratizbony Rudolf Voderholzer, Bishop of Eichstätt Gregor Maria Hanke, Auxiliary Bisku Ratizbony Josef Graf, Auxiliary Bishop of Augsburg Florian Wörner, and Auxiliary Bishop of Berlin Matthias Heinrich. As Bishop Voderholzer stressed, in his calendar the 3rd Sunday of September is long reserved for participation in the March for Life.

Of course, six bishops are a definite number of the Episcopate; however, for German proliferators the participation of so many hierarchs is an crucial motion of support and encouragement for further work to defend life.

Marches for Life in Germany mostly do not run in specified a peaceful atmosphere as those in Poland. Although demonstrators themselves walk through the streets of cities with prayer, singing and pro-life slogans, they are usually subject to violent attacks by verbal leftist environments. Both in Cologne and Berlin regularly gather groups of haters who mock believers and call for full legalisation of infanticide.

This year, too. Just behind the celebrated Brandenburg Gate, leftist environments formed a countermanifest. Its participants wanted to block the passage of the anti-abortion process. Among the colours of the LGBT lobby, feminist symbols, as well as occult leftist characters, the leftist sat on the street, refusing to pass through the marchers.

The service removed the vulgar blockade, but there was no end to trying to obstruct the organization of the march. During the speech of the auxiliary bishop of the Berlin diocese Matthias Heinrich, about 20 supporters of infanticide entered the stage, chanting pro-abortion slogans. The group tried to make a red banner from the phase and take the microphone distant from the organizers. Police intervened.

Currently, in Germany, unborn children can be killed for no reason until the 3rd period of pregnancy, as long as they have received a certificate of consultation in a peculiar clinic. Prenatal infanticide is illegal at the same time, but after obtaining a certificate – unpunished. In addition, children conceived until the end of pregnancy can be killed in the event of a severe illness, pregnancy resulting from a prohibited act or a life-threatening or mother's health. This results in about 100,000 abortions a year. This is simply a lot, but for comparison – more than twice as much as in France, for example, although France is simply a little populous country than Germany.

Thanks to restrictions on German law in public awareness abortion remains wrong. Unfortunately, even this state of affairs does not satisfy the left; the current ruling coalition plans to completely legalise infanticide, that is, the abolition of formal criminality. However, it is not certain whether the change will be implemented, due to the fact that the government fears social polarization, and many centres – including the Catholic Church – powerfully protest against full legalization of abortion.
