In the Podlaskie Border defender Division on 16 June this year, nearly 240 attempts were recorded to illegally enter Poland from Belarus.
Officers directed to defend the sections of the border in Michałów, Narewka, Czeremsze, Krynkach, Białowieża and the Orthodox Dubichs faced highly intensified migration efforts. In order to get past the rules, migrants destroyed the steel physical barriers and forced border rivers – Istochanka and Świsłocz.
In the vicinity of Dubicz Church and Cheremchy a group of people who failed to beat the border threw stones towards Polish patrols. Although the Border defender vehicle was damaged as a consequence of these attacks, fortunately no of the officers were injured.
So far, since the beginning of 2025, more than 13,000 attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border have been recorded in the Podlaskie SG Branch. Migrants came from nearly 30 different countries. People of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Congo, Sudan and Eritrea were among those trying to get through on June 16.
Also a day later, on June 17, border guards noted almost a 100 consecutive attempts to push the border. On the sections operated by SG facilities in Krynka, Bobrowniki, Narewce and Czeremze Migrants again attempted to break through to Poland, destroying the physical barrier and forcing the Świisłocz and Narew rivers. In Cherems, the frustration of unsuccessful attempts to break the border led any people to another attack with stones on Polish patrols, causing harm to another service vehicle.
– Practically all day on the Polish-Belarusian border, aggressive actions are taking place against our patrols – emphasized representatives of the Podlaskie Border defender Branch. The activities undertaken by the officers shall be carried out with utmost care, while respecting existing global rules and humanitarian principles.
The expanding migratory force in the region is due both to global conflicts and humanitarian crises and to the activities of organised smuggling groups that encourage migrants to make risky attempts to cross the border. Border defender announces further strengthening patrols and developing cooperation with EU agencies, as well as further exercises to prepare officers for increasing challenges and expanding incidents at the border.
