Yesterday was the 110th anniversary of the death of Zygmunt Balicki 1 of the creators of the Polish national idea. It is an outstanding and inactive under-appreciated Polish political mind, in my opinion the second most crucial politician of National Democracy after Roman Dmowski at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It originated straight from the socialist movement, as it co-founded the Socialist Association of “People of Poland”. He founded the Union of Polish Youth “Zet”. Together with Roman Dmowski he founded the National League in 1893 and the National-Democratic organization in 1897. He advocated against liberalism, seeing it as a cosmopolitan political direction. He did not take the view that the individual plays a greater function than the community. He fought to activate Polish folk masses and to affect them in national life. alternatively of a long résumé a fewer quotes...

"There is most likely no nation that has specified a weak sense of selfishness, so frequently has it disobeyed its responsibilities towards itself and its future as our nation"

"No 1 sows greater class and organization antagonisms, greater interior hatreds than those found under the slogan of abolishing antagonisms and national hatreds. In order to organise global solidarity, they start by disorganising their own people"

Sigismund Balicki "National Egoism Against Ethics: With Characters and Political Life", Publishing Society in Lviv, Lviv 1914.

“National education requires an individual to have a different attitude to the Homeland than to something that exists outside the soul, with all the desire for the good of this Homeland and the condemnation of all that is in it. Polish soul not only carries The homeland within itself, but it besides feels inside it, all its intertwins with it, and it completely merges its personality with its same – and specified a relation can only be established erstwhile the layers of national instinct scope to the depths of the native past.”

"In raising national men, patriotism is not enough. They must, in their young age, become accustomed to systematically embracing the full life of the nation, its full tasks, its affairs and objectives, to the ability to solve nodes and the contradictions of public life, and must have this deep-rooted awareness in their soul that the Homeland is simply a real edifice, which constantly plans to build and build, that nothing should be squandered from the past's achievements, but must be multiplied in all generation. In this way, young people are to make in their souls a sense of future work for all their national assets and economical feelings towards their own country. The heir to the homeland and its later liable host to another eye and with a different feeling must look upon the future heritage, alternatively than bystander, for whom it is simply an object of observation.”
